Inspire Me!
By Pam Best
Chosen according to the foreknowledge of God
the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and
sprinkling by His blood. 1 Peter 1:2
God loves us; Christ, our High Priest, bore our
sins and our infirmities; the Holy Spirit offers us His continuous enabling presence and
power, not because we are good, but because we need love and acceptance in order to be
good.
My Interpretation:
I really liked this thought because it serves as a wake up call to myself and others like
me. The Bible says that there is no good thing in me. I don't even have the capacity in
and of myself to be good. Any goodness that I do is attributed to God working through me.
My blessings are given to me by the Father. He gives me grace and peace and love and sent
Jesus, the Christ, to die in my place. Jesus laid down His life and covered all of my sins
and shortcomings and taught me the way to eternal glory. And when He rose and acended to
the right hand of the throne to reign, He didn't leave me comfortless. The Holy Spirit
dwells among man and guides and comforts and shields...
All of this was done for you and for me. We didn't have to work for it or beg for it. We
don't have to wonder about it. Out of His own goodness, God made provision for us. Without
these provisions, we could never be good. Once again, we have turned things around. We
have been inundated with the mindset that you have to give something in order to get
something in return. Everything is contingent upon something else. But God doesn't work
like that. He gave to us freely. In His infinite wisdom, He knew that His grace, love and
understanding were required tools in our quest for goodness. God gave SO we could be good
NOT BECAUSE we are good. When we understand this, we understand the real meaning of grace.
