Inspire Me!
By Pam Best
They spit on Him, and took the staff and
struck Him on the head again and again. Matthew 27:30
Have you been falsely accused? Do you know
the hurt of that? Nothing is more destructive to a human personality than a slap in the
face. It is so humiliating, so demeaning, so deeply dehumanizing. It destroys something
very basic to our personhood.
My Interpretation:
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but
words....they hurt the most. Doesn't it frustrate you when people second guess your
motives? Doesn't it break your heart when you've done all that you can do to love somebody
or help somebody or protect somebody and they accuse you of conspiring against them. It's
a psychological slap in the face. You begin to wonder if the person (or people) ever
really knew you at all. What do you do when you've done all you can and it seems like it's
never enough? We have to be like Jesus and just stand. Love anyway. Help and protect
inspite of. Every time we give into the temptation of doubt, we slap Jesus in the face.
When we, in our anger and hurt cry out to our Savior and accuse Him of not listening or
not loving or not helping, we spit in the face of Christ. When we worry ourselves sensless
over how we are going to make it or how we are going to eat or secure shelter, we are
telling God that we don't trust Him with our lives. And yet, no matter how many times we
falsely accuse Christ of being an uncareing, unfeeling, unmerciful, unfair Lord, He still
loves us and defends us. He sees past our frustration and confusion into our need. He
stands. His love doesn't falter or fail. He stands. Our doubt doesn't make Him love us any
less. He stands. And that is what we must do. When we are despitefully used, we have to
stand. Pray for those that use you. When we love with all of our might and still accused
of being insincere, stand. Keep loving regardless. The songwriter says, "If when you
give the best of your service telling the world that the Savior has come, be not dismayed
when your friends...oh when every single one of them...they don't believe you. Know that
He'll understand and He'll say well done." God understands. Keep doing the right
thing for the right reasons and God will take care of the rest. Learn a lesson from Jesus
the Christ. Stand.
