Inspire Me!
By Pam Best
In Christ we who are many form one body, and
each member belongs to all the others. Romans 12:5
A small-group fellowship is where the church
can function best as the healing body of Christ. A support group loves and accepts us as
we are, and also cares enough to confront us into becoming what we need to be.
My Interpretation:
I attended UNC-Chapel Hill (yeah..I was
schooling well before my stint at the Oaks! :o) ). There were over 23,000 students there
when I started. I often sat in classes where there were 450 to 500 students. Although I
had some wonderful professors, it was sometimes hard to follow some of the lessons. My
professor's rate of teaching couldn't possibly accomodate for each person's rate of
learning and retention. To remedy this, the university offered mandatory small study
groups for each large class. We had Teaching Assistants that reviewed the material from
class and helped us to fully understand the lectures. We needed these groups in order to
extract everything that was in the lesson and accomplish everything that was expected of
us. Have you ever thought of your church attendance that way? Discipleship requires a lot
of "out of class" study and sometimes doing our homework requires some
additional guidance. Our weekend worship experices are packed with information and lessons
that are presented at a rate of teaching that cannot always accomodate each of our rates
of learning. That's why our churches offer us mid-week prayer services, and Bible studies,
and workshops. Sometimes our needs go beyond those which are touched upon on Saturday or
Sunday mornings. That's why Pastors offer counseling sessions and group help sessions. It
is time for us to take full advantage of the learning opportunities offered by our church
fellowships. These studies and groups will help us to understand the Word that is given
and better understand what is expected of us. They equip us with the knowledge of how to
bring our lives in line with the will of God and also how to witness to others. Take the
time to participate in your church's Bible studies. They will work for the betterment of
you as a Christian and the betterment of your Church as a community of faith.
