Rear Admiral W. Clyde Marsh - United States Navy - Deputy Director, Expeditionary Warfare Division
w-clyde-marsh.jpg (51577 bytes)Rear Admiral W. Clyde Marsh was born in Wedowee, Ala., and is a longtime resident of Atlanta, Ga. He graduated from Alabama A&M University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. He received a commission as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy following graduation and began his career as a Surface Warfare Officer.

Rear Adm. Marsh then earned a Master of Science Degree in International Relations from Troy State University in 1988 and is a 1992 graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College. He attended the National Defense University, Joint Flag Officer Capstone Course. Additionally, he completed the Black Sea Regional Security Program at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Operational tours at sea include, Gunnery Officer in USS Ozbourn (DD 846); Forward deployed to Yokosuka Japan as Missile Officer in USS Parsons (DDG 33); western Pacific deployment as Operations Officer and Navigator in USS Prairie (AD 15); Weapons Officer in USS Manley (DD 940); a Mediterranean deployment as First Lieutenant in USS Pensacola (LSD 38) in support of the amphibious landing at Beirut, Lebanon earning the battle Efficiency "E" Award; Forward Deployed to Sasebo, Japan, as Executive Officer in USS St. Louis (LKA 116) earning two Battle "E" and two Top Gator Awards; as Executive Officer in USS Essex (LHD 2) in support of Operation United Shield, the amphibious assault and withdrawal of the United Nations Forces from Somalia. Essex earned her first Battle "E" during this initial deployment to the Arabian Gulf.

Command tours include two Mediterranean deployments as Commanding Officer, USS Sumter (LST 1181). During the initial deployment, Sumter participated in Operation Sharp Edge, the evacuation of over 1,600 personnel from Monrovia. Sumter conducted Special Operation Silver Pines during the subsequent deployment receiving two Battle "E" Awards and two Top Gator Awards; completed an Arabian Gulf deployment as Commanding Officer, USS Cleveland (LPD 7), during which Cleveland earned two Battle "E" Awards, two Allen G. Ogden Awards, two Surface Ship Safety Awards and the Unit Wellness Award; as Commander, Amphibious Squadron FIVE during which he commanded the Essex Amphibious Ready Group and served as the Joint Forces Maritime Component Commander for Exercise Kernel Blitz 99.

Shore and staff assignments include, Simulation and Exercise Support Officer at Fleet Combat Training Center, Atlantic; Surface Engineering Branch Head at Chief of Naval Education and Training (CNET); Conventional War Plans and Japan Desk Officer at Commander in Chief, United States Pacific Command (USCINCPAC J5); and Special Assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO). Rear Adm. Marsh is currently serving in his initial flag assignment at the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations as Deputy Director, Expeditionary Warfare Division (N75).

Rear Adm. Marsh's personal awards include Legion of Merit Medal (with gold star in lieu of second award), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with two gold stars in lieu of third award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal and various campaign and unit awards.
