Dr. Neari F.
Warner, alumnus, provost, and vice president of academic affairs, took over the helm of
Grambling State University. She has provided outstanding leadership as vice president for
three divisions at the university since 1994 and has the distinction of being the only
person in the university's history to serve in many key administrative positions.
Accountability
and productivity are at the heart of Dr. Neari Warner's commitment to the future of her
alma mater that will extend well beyond her tenure as acting president and well into the
21st century. After just a few weeks as Grambling State University's chief administrative
officer, Warner has already introduced a strong work ethic.
Dr.
Neari Francois Warner is a 1967 magna cum laude graduate of Grambling State University and
since returning to her alma mater seven years ago, she has served as the university's
acting vice president of academic affairs, special assistant to the president, vice
president for development and university relations, interim vice president for student
affairs and assistant vice president for academic affairs.
Prior
to returning to GSU, Warner worked for 26 years at Southern University in New Orleans
honing her academic and administrative skills in significant positions. She served as dean
of the junior division, was the director of a nationally recognized Upward Bound program,
was coordinator of TRIO programs and worked as an associate professor of English.
After
being awarded a presidential fellowship, Warner received a masters degree in English
education from Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia. She earned her doctorate degree in
Curriculum and Instruction from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Warner has
completed numerous professional development and leadership training institutes conducted
in Washington, D.C., Oklahoma City, Las Vegas, Anaheim, California; Williamburg, Virginia;
Austin and Bedford, Texas.
Listed
among her honors and achievements are the Mary B. Singleton Award presented by the Delta
Sigma chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; induction in the 2000 edition of
Marquis "Who's Who in America," Distinguished HBCU/GSU Alumna sponsored by the
National Association for Equal Opportunity, twice named Outstanding Teacher in the
Division of Freshman Studies at Southern University, New Orleans; named a New Orleans YWCA
Role Model and on two occasions, Warner was honored as "Unsung Hero" by the
Cresent City chapter of Links, Inc. and Alpha Lambda chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
From a
pool of 188 international nominees, Warner was selected as one of twelve for Outstanding
National Freshman Advocate by the National Resource Center for the Freshman Year
Experience.
Dr.
Warner's special appointments include the evaluation registry for the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges; secretary, Conference of Louisiana
Colleges and Universities; Performance and Funding, Task Force 6, Louisiana Board of
Regents and Board of Directors, Executive Committee of the Louisiana Endowment for the
Humanities.
She
holds memberships in numerous civic, social, service and religious organizations including
the National and American Associations of University Women, Kappa Delta Pi International
Honor Society in Education, African-Americans in Louisiana Higher Education; Louisiana
Association of Student Assistance Programs. She also holds memberships in the Golden Key,
Pi Gamma Mu and Alpha Gamma Delta honor societies; NAACP, Grambling National Alumni
Association, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc,; The Links, Inc. Warner is also a member of
Austerlitz Street Baptist Church in New Orleans and the New Rocky Valley Baptist Church in
Grambling.
The New Orleans native has one son, Jimmie Jr., and seven siblings.
