Dr. John T. Gibson, a native of Montgomery,
Alabama and a product of the Montgomery Public School System, graduated in 1966 from
Alabama State Laboratory High School with honors and a four-year basketball scholarship to
historic Tuskegee University. His degrees include: B.S., Tuskegee University, 1970; Ed.M.,
Tuskegee University, 1971; Ed.S., University of Colorado, Boulder, 1972; and the Ph.D.,
University of Colorado, Boulder, 1973. Additionally, in 1982, Gibson received a
certificate in Finance and Management from Harvard University as an MLE scholar.
Gibson has been the recipient of many honors and awards among which are: Received the
Ph.D. at the age of 24; entered the U.S. Army as a Distinguished Military Graduate from
Tuskegee University; received an Honorable Discharge as a Captain, United States Army
Reserves, 1978; cited as an Outstanding Educational Leader by Phi Delta Kappa
International, 1981; listed in Whos Who in the United States; listed in Men of
Achievement International; received the Kappa Alpha Psi (Southern Province) Outstanding
Achievement Award; and selected as Group Facilitator, Harvard Summer Management Institute.
Dr. Gibson is affiliated with many organizations, some are: Kappa Delta Pi National Honor
Society, Phi Delta Kappa International, the Elks, the Masons - 33rd degree, the Shriners,
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Optimist International and Kiwanis International. He also
serves on the Board for 100 Black Men of America, Inc., Chair for the Science and
Engineering Alliance, a member of the NAFEO Advisory Committee for Hopson's Digital Media
Inc., a member of Blacks in Government (BIG), Huntsville Rotary International, and an
Inductee in the Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame.
He has published a number of articles in national journals and newspapers on education,
finance, and administration. A few of his publications include:

He is married to the former M. Voncile Pierce and is the
father of three sons - John Thomas, II; Jerard Trenton; and Justin Tarrance; and one
daughter, Shayla Voncile. He served as former treasurer and member of the Steward Board at
St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church, Huntsville, Alabama.
Since September 1986, Dr. Gibson has served Alabama A&M University in several
capacities including Vice President and Chief Fiscal Officer, Associate Vice President for
Administrative Services, and Vice President for Business and Finance. Presently, he serves
as President and a Professor (tenured) of Administration and Finance, Higher Education. |
