Dr.
Joann R. G. Boyd-Scotland, is an outstanding academician. Dr. Boyd-Scotland received a
Ph.D. in education-curriculum and institutional administration from Kansas State
University in Manhattan, Kansas. She received an M.S. degree in education-guidance and
counseling from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. She holds a B.A. degree
in psychology and music education from Tougaloo College in Jackson, Mississippi. Dr.
Boyd-Scotland graduated with honors from all three institutions. She was also a Benjamin
E. Mays Scholar at Indiana University in the summer of 1986. Before her position at Denmark Technical College, Dr. Boyd-Scotland
was at Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina where she served as Dean, School of
Education, Director of Graduate Studies and Professor of Education since 1986. A
well-known and respected educator, she served as Executive Director of the South Carolina
Curriculum Congress, a statewide collaborative effort to determine what all children from
kindergarten through high school should know and be able to do. Dr. Boyd-Scotland has
extensive experience in administration, counseling, successful grants and proposal
writing, and is a published author.
Dr. Boyd-Scotland firmly believes that the student is the
number one priority. She can often be found in meeting rooms discussing ways in which to
enhance current services offered to her students. Since coming to Denmark Tech on June 1,
1993, Dr. Boyd-Scotland has revised academic programs to meet the needs of students. She
also launched a recruiting campaign and increased enrollment .
Dr. Boyd-Scotland is committed to providing excellent
instruction to all students. Her goal for Denmark Technical College is to provide a
world-class education which will afford students a rewarding future in many ways. |
